As noted in the news over the past few days, the LA/LB harbor has been severely impacted due to stalled labor contract negotiations with the Office Clerical Unit of the ILWU. To reiterate, Aloha uses exclusively Matson Lines and their OCU workers are not part of the negotiation or disruptions. All of Aloha’s freight is moving normally.
The negotiations have been going around the clock. They finally broke off this morning with no resolution. The city of LA has appealed to the Federal government. There is now a federal mediator on the way to facilitate further negotiations. Let’s hope for a resolution tomorrow. Even though Aloha’s customer’s are not directly affected, this port-wide labor disruption has been very costly to the local and national economy. 40% of all overseas goods pass through the ports of LA or LB.
